Serving those Beyond our Borders. Pope John Paul had a vision of a future in which Catholics of North and South America would generously share their spiritual and material resources as neighbors of faith. With that in mind Saint John’s embarked on a sister parish project several years ago. Each year since, groups have traveled to the parish of San Pablo (Saint Paul) in the city of San Francisco de Macoris in the Dominican Republic. Last year (may of 2011) a group which included two high school students and three college students brought loads of medicines and religious goods, spent joyful hours with children at an orphanage, met youth leaders at San Pablo, and visited chapels in very poor areas of the parish. Thanks to over $4,000 that was raised for the Dominican Republic, our group was able to witness the thrill of a young man being able to speak again with a voice device we bought; we also contributed to sister parish projects for their pastor, Fr. Oscar Pena.
